Making a Difference - Winter 2020
The Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities' (GCDD) Winter edition of the Making a Difference quarterly news magazine is welcoming in a new decade and a new legislative session. This issue lays out GCDD's legislative priorities for 2020 spearheaded by a new public policy team, Dr. Alyssa Lee and Charlie Miller. One of those priorities is the passage of Gracie’s Law, written to avoid any organ transplant discrimination against people with disabilities in Georgia. GCDD invites you to our annual Advocacy Days at the Georgia State Capitol in downtown Atlanta. Learn about policies affecting people with disabilities, and join advocates from across the state in speaking with elected officials about these very important issues. Around the State spotlights a visit to Georgia by Judy Heumann, who shared her experiences and story as a disabilities and civil rights activist that spans more than 50 years. GCDD's impact is featured in articles about Gwinnett SToPP's campaign to end the school-to-prison pipeline and Real Communities Partnership, the Welcoming Community Dialogue initiative. Continue to enjoy another story from the Story Collection project, What's Happening in Washington? and the Community Calendar.
